Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from this piece. The beginning starts out with the description and explanation of abusive relationships of men towards women. Being a man, I was initially closed based on the fact I hate being looped into that group. However, I realized the group the author was referring to were not the type of people I associate with nor have anything in common with. I found their story compelling, heartbreaking, and at the end a true survival piece. Being responsible for three kids and having no family or support; especially from the father was only tip of the iceberg in this piece. Overcoming abusive men physically and mentally in an effort to find someone who can love them for them seems easy to most people, but it definitely is not the case. Locked in her forties, homeless, three kids and barely keeping their heads above water is an understatement. It really opened my eyes to how easily these kind of relationships and situations can occur. It really was heartbreaking to read. A worth read!
