The Rise of Kate: Book 1 in The Saga of Kate & Molly Series by Vicki Pearson

I instantly got more interested into the story by the adding of actual locations like the Mississippi River and New Orleans initial locations. Giving credence to the travels and narrative of the story. The character of Kate; an unfortunate beginning of being almost homeless only to be taken in by Owen and Bertha. Her existence was at this point one of limited opportunity under their guardianship. Things perk up and start moving once the character of Molly is introduced. The intrigue of female pirates give the genre an upgrade. Generally you hear about the male version of pirates which objectify the female persuation, but this particular piece shows our heroines in a different, much needed light. The author does a good job in the evolution of the characters and their adventure. The author has strong control of the progression of the story and quality of word use. The design of the novel with “Pirate” look hits well with the type of fonts used as well as the little pictures of pirate clipart. Meet a man and fall in love? You will not see this general message in society here. No sir, Kate and Molly bring a refreshing perspective to a genre needing an new open perspective. I could see this potentially being made into a series. Worth the read.
