I have to say, Rice got me smiling from the get go with the foreward to his novel. It is witty, limited boundaries (if there were any to begin with) and very inviting to the reader. I had no idea what I was in-store for when I picked this book up to read. I confess, I had no idea what the word "Gunt" meant, so I had to look it up. Needless to say, it goes perfect with the theme of this story. Our main character, Median is a porn star. Now some may be offended by this, but I found it delightful to hit a character with such a "shady profession" by society's standards to be our go to guy. Apparently during a shoot, he gets knocked-up by the Devil.

Rice takes the reader on a zany ride with Median and his journey to getting the devil's spawn out of his body. Did I mention again, he is a guy who is pregnant? Great plot twist. As Median treks along in the story, we meet his roommate who has apparently stuck a severed head into the fridge for safe keeping. The funny thing about that is it talks to Median. The talking head then becomes somewhat of a sidekick to Median as he tries to figure out if he is really pregnant or crazy. Through varies twists and turns (lots of weird interaction and a few blood spots) Median's soon to be ex-wife takes him to get an abortion. This is where he meets Dr. Rick; a.k.a. The Devil! After a very comical exchange between the two, Median escapes. The trip takes an even odder twist in the appearance of Milo who assists in the birth of Median's baby. (No spoiler here....it is not what you might expect)
Median is kind of caught in the middle of the age old battle between good and evil. Rice's interpretation of hell and how its denizens operate in conjunction with humans makes an interesting tale. You need to put away your scruples when engaging in this crazy, yet highly entertaining piece. Be ready to be shocked, grossed out, and giddy while reading, which can come from the next page in shock factor. I recommend for a good time by throwing a beer or glass of wine back, because you will laugh out loud once you begin this journey.
